Namibia: Hem Matsi to Represent Nam At World Fashion Week®
WITH so many exhibitions around the globe to her name, Hem Matsi has been invited to yet another fashion showcase in Paris, France.
The Namibian designer has been selected to represent the country at the World Fashion Week which takes place from 30 September to 4 October 2014. She plans on using the platform to further market Namibia.
The event will be held at the historic Maison de L'America Latine. It will will be a platform for ministers of commerce, culture, tourism, ambassadors, international media and representatives from all over the world to network and seek opportunities for fashion industry players of their respective countries.
The five-day event will include fundraising and a World Fashion Forum, with a core focus on identifying new opportunities in the fashion industry, contributing towards poverty eradication by the empowerment and enabling of women in rural and slum areas, especially focused in the African continent.
Matsi was excited to share the news with The Namibian, saying that the event will create more opportunities for her. "I am hoping to market Namibia and bring back more knowledge." She adds that it will also be a great chance to meet other designers and learn from them and at the same time spark her creativity while she is there.
One of the great things about the fashion week is its contribution towards a cause that is very close to Matsi's heart. An auction of all the designers' masterpieces will be held, and all proceeds will go towards helping African children and women who come from abusive backgrounds.
World Fashion Week honours the outstanding contribution and lifetime achievements of fashion icons across five continents, dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of fashion, furthering the promotion of creative leadership, for artistic, technical and social achievements within the global fashion industry.
